SKC201 - Robotics 201 (Rising 6-8 Grades)
Spark creativity, problem-solving, & teamwork skills in Robotics 201
Course Overview
A Next-Step Robotics Camp for Future Engineers
Buckle up, future engineers! Robotics 201 is a hands-on STEM camp designed for students in grades 6–8 who are ready to level up their robotics skills. In partnership with the William States Lee College of Engineering, this camp gives middle schoolers an exciting, supportive environment to explore how robots are designed, built, and programmed.
Using the LEGO® Education SPIKE™ kit, campers move from imagination to invention as they build custom robots, test ideas, and use coding to control movement and behavior.
Design & Build Robots with LEGO Education SPIKE
Campers discover the foundations of robot design and engineering as they assemble robots using advanced LEGO components, sensors, and motors.
Robot Engineering Basics
- Explore core principles of robot design, assembly, and control.
- Build robots using motors, gears, and structures for stability and performance.
- Learn how sensors help robots react to their environment.
- Experiment with different designs to improve speed, strength, balance, and accuracy.
Code, Test & Control Your Creations
Robotics 201 is powered by learning through experimentation. Campers use coding to bring their robots to life—then refine and troubleshoot their programs as they test their builds.
Hands-On Coding & Problem Solving
- Write and modify code to control robot movement and behaviors.
- Use logic, sequencing, and basic programming concepts to complete challenges.
- Practice troubleshooting when a robot doesn’t work as expected.
- Improve designs through testing, iteration, and teamwork—just like real engineers.
Collaboration, Innovation & Engineering Thinking
Middle school is the perfect time to build confidence in STEM. Robotics 201 encourages campers to think like engineers: ask questions, test ideas, and work together to solve challenges.
Skills Campers Will Develop
- Problem-solving: Break down challenges into manageable steps.
- Innovation: Create and refine new solutions through experimentation.
- Teamwork: Communicate ideas, share tasks, and support group success.
- Engineering mindset: Learn that prototypes improve through practice and iteration.
End-of-Week Robot Showcase
By the end of the week, campers will showcase their custom-built robots and celebrate the skills they’ve developed in robotics, coding, and engineering design.
A Proud Finish for Young Engineers
- Demonstrate robot builds and programmed behaviors.
- Share the design choices and problem-solving steps behind their creations.
- Celebrate growth in STEM confidence and collaboration.
Why Parents Choose Robotics 201
- Designed for grades 6–8 with age-appropriate robotics and coding instruction.
- Hosted in partnership with the William States Lee College of Engineering.
- Uses the LEGO Education SPIKE platform for hands-on building and programming.
- Supports real-world STEM skills: coding, design thinking, troubleshooting, and teamwork.
- Ends with a showcase that lets students demonstrate what they built and learned.
