UNC Charlotte Camps on Campus Cool School Safari Excursion

This camp will give campers the opportunity to be explorers and discover many facts about various animal species and their habitats.

Course Overview

Start Your Child’s Wild Safari Adventure

Hop into your “jeep” and get ready for a wild week of discovery! Cool School: Safari Excursion is a nature and animal adventure camp designed especially for kids in grades 1–4. Young explorers travel across the globe—without leaving camp—as they learn about some of Earth’s most fascinating ecosystems and the animals that live there.

Each day is a brand-new journey filled with hands-on activities, games, and creative projects that bring science and geography to life.

Explore Deserts, Rainforests, Savannas & More

Campers become explorers as they “visit” different regions of the world and discover the unique animals, plants, and landscapes found in each.

Global Ecosystem Adventures

  • Journey across the Sahara Desert and learn how animals survive heat and sand.
  • Travel along the Swahili Coast to explore coastal wildlife and ocean connections.
  • Step into lush rainforests filled with colorful birds, insects, and hidden creatures.
  • Roam wide-open savannas where lions, zebras, giraffes, and elephants call home.

Along the way, campers learn how each ecosystem’s climate, vegetation, and seasons shape the lives of the animals that live there.

Meet Amazing Animals & Their Habitats

Every day, campers uncover new facts about animal behavior, diets, and adaptations—how each species is perfectly suited to its home.

Animal & Habitat Discoveries

  • Learn what different animals eat, how they move, and where they sleep.
  • Match animals to the habitats where they are most likely to be found.
  • Explore how fur, feathers, patterns, and body shapes help animals survive and hide.
  • Play “who am I?” games to guess animals based on clues and characteristics.

Discover Climate, Seasons & Change

Cool School: Safari Excursion introduces big ideas in a simple, age-appropriate way, helping children understand how the environment affects animals.

Climate & Animal Survival

  • Learn about different climates around the world—hot, cold, wet, and dry.
  • See how seasons influence migration, hibernation, and animal behavior.
  • Explore how climate change can affect animal movement, adaptation, and survival in a gentle, kid-friendly way.
  • Talk about small ways people can help protect animals and their habitats.

By connecting these ideas, campers develop a deeper appreciation for Earth’s incredible biodiversity and our shared responsibility to care for it.

Hands-On Activities, Games & Creative Projects

This all-new curriculum keeps children engaged with interactive learning that feels like play.

Safari-Themed Fun

  • Create animal fact cards and simple field guides.
  • Build ecosystem scenes with craft materials to model deserts, forests, and grasslands.
  • Play movement games that let campers pretend to be different safari animals.
  • Design maps and “passport” pages that track the regions they’ve explored.

These activities help campers remember what they’ve learned while building creativity, curiosity, and confidence.
