Before You Register

Participants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be comfortable using basic computer applications.

Because this is a live online program, participants must also have reliable internet access and meet UNC Charlotte’s technical requirements for online participation.

Previous experience with medical terminology is recommended but not required. Participants without a medical terminology background may wish to complete a self-paced Medical Terminology course before beginning the certificate.

Certificate Requirements

This is an exam- and attendance-based certificate program. To earn the Medical Coding Specialist Certificate, participants must:

• Earn a grade of 70% or higher on all required exams.
• Meet the program’s attendance requirements.
• Complete all required coursework and assessments.

Textbooks and Materials

Required textbooks are purchased separately and are not included in the $2,400 registration fee.

Estimated textbook cost: $350–$400

Registered participants will receive information about required textbooks before the program begins. Because some materials may need to be shipped, participants should allow adequate time for delivery.

Payment Options

Program Cost: $2,400

A payment plan is available. Participants may reserve a seat with a $500 deposit, with the remaining balance divided into five scheduled payments.

Live Online Format

The Medical Coding Specialist Certificate is delivered live online. Participants need reliable internet access and a computer with a webcam, microphone and speakers or headset.

Professional Certification

The Medical Coding Specialist Certificate provides education that can help prepare graduates to pursue national medical coding certification examinations.
