Course Overview

Digital Creation Camp for Future Coders & Creators

Coding: Virtual Reality – The Future is Now / YouTube Content Creators is a two-in-one digital media camp designed for students in grades 4–6. Campers spend part of the week building immersive virtual reality (VR) experiences and part of the week planning, filming, and editing content like real YouTube creators.

This camp gives kids a safe, structured environment to explore coding, creativity, and communication—all while learning responsible online behavior and digital media skills they can use beyond the classroom.

Virtual Reality: The Future Is Now

In the Virtual Reality portion of the camp, students embark on an exciting journey into the world of VR design. They learn how virtual environments are created and what makes them feel immersive and interactive.

Design & Build Custom Virtual Worlds

  • Create original virtual worlds using beginner-friendly VR tools.
  • Explore simulated environments and learn how 3D experiences are structured.
  • Use basic programming concepts to add interactivity and movement.
  • Experiment with layout, perspective, and user experience inside virtual spaces.

Take Home a VR Headset & Share Projects

  • At the end of the week, campers take home their first cardboard VR headset.
  • VR projects can be viewed on a website or mobile device.
  • Students do not need a mobile device to participate in camp, but will need access to one at home to view their VR creations in the headset.
  • Projects will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with family and friends.

Students will work in pairs or teams for most activities, building collaboration and problem-solving skills as they create.

YouTube Content Creators

In the YouTube Content Creators portion of the camp, students learn what it takes to plan, produce, and refine engaging video content—while also understanding how to stay safe and respectful online.

Find Their Voice & Build a Channel Concept

  • Explore different YouTube content styles and personalities (how-to, gaming, reviews, vlogs, and more).
  • Identify their own interests and potential niches for a future channel.
  • Develop an on-camera presence with simple performance techniques and practice.
  • Create a basic channel branding plan including name, look, and content ideas.

Digital Citizenship & Safe Online Practices

  • Learn the Dos and Don’ts of posting content online.
  • Discuss privacy, safety, and respectful communication in digital spaces.
  • Understand the importance of good digital citizenship and positive online behavior.

Video Production & Editing Skills

  • Plan videos using simple scripts or outlines.
  • Practice filming techniques such as framing, lighting, and clear audio.
  • Learn basic editing skills using kid-friendly software.
  • Put together a short video or series of clips created during camp.

At the end of the week, students take home a launch plan for a future channel plus the content they created in class. All projects will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website for families to view.

As with the VR portion, students will work in pairs or small teams for most of the program, practicing collaboration and shared creativity.
