Is your child obsessed with Minecraft and ready to move beyond just “playing” the game? Coding: Minecraft Designers/Minecraft Redstone Engineers is a project-based coding and game design experience tailored specifically for students in grades 7–9. Using Minecraft Java Edition, campers learn how to design custom worlds, engineer Redstone-powered creations, and use basic coding logic with Command and Structure blocks.

Throughout the program, students work in pairs or small teams to design, build, test, and refine their own interactive Minecraft experiences— building valuable skills in communication, creativity, and problem-solving.

Minecraft Designers: Build Custom Worlds and Experiences

In the Minecraft Designers portion of the course, students dive into the creative side of Minecraft. They move from casual players to world builders, learning how to plan, design, and construct immersive environments.

  • Create and customize their own Minecraft maps and worlds.
  • Design and build advanced structures to share between different worlds.
  • Use Redstone and Command blocks to bring their creations to life with interactive features.

Minecraft Redstone Engineers: Take Builds to the Next Level

In the Minecraft Redstone Engineers portion of the course, students go beyond building and learn how to engineer automation and interactivity with Redstone. This is where engineering, logic, and creativity meet.

What Your Child Will Create

  • Design and build a Redstone-powered carnival with mini-games, roller coasters, and interactive attractions.
  • Expand their Redstone knowledge to include advanced circuits and mechanisms.
  • Use Command and Structure blocks to control and enhance their builds.
  • Apply problem-solving and debugging skills to get complex systems working correctly.
  • Showcase their final projects to classmates, explaining how their Redstone systems work.

From Player to Engineer

By the end of the program, students will understand how Redstone can be used to automate movement, create games, and power elaborate builds, helping them think more like engineers and coders instead of just players.

Technology Requirements

  • Projects from this class require the Java version of Minecraft.
  • Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible with these projects.
  • Students will work in pairs or teams for most activities to simulate real-world collaborative workflows.
