Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) will play an increasingly important role in shaping our professional work, classroom learning experiences, and personal lives. This certificate well equips participants to apply generative AI tools in their teaching practice and contribute to the next-generation learning revolution in their institutions and beyond.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of the Professional Certificate, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify and evaluate the potential of generative AI tools to enhance teaching and learning experiences in their respective fields.
  2. Critically assess ethical implications related to the use of generative AI tools in education.
  3. Develop pedagogical strategies for integrating generative AI tools into their teaching practice, including designing assignments and assessments.
  4. Collaborate with colleagues to integrate generative AI tools into institutional initiatives and programs.
  5. Develop a plan for implementing generative AI tools in their teaching practice
  6. Communicate the benefits and challenges of using generative AI tools to different audiences, including students, colleagues, and administrators.

Each workshop will use Zoom and Canvas. You will need to have a computer with an internet connection and a web browser. You will also need to be familiar with basic computer skills.

We will host one cohort that is scheduled to begin on May 29, 2024, and end on June 11, 2024.

This cohort will include 5 synchronous Zoom sessions (one hour each) beginning on Wednesday May 29 2024. There will also be a self-paced online capstone course (5 hours) where participants will submit a deliverable.

Week 1
Prompt Engineering with ChatGPT (1 hour) - Wednesday, May 29, 2024 - This workshop is a one-hour synchronous online event where you can practice hands-on with ChatGPT.

Generative AI Tools for Education (1 hour) - Thursday, May 30, 2024 - This one-hour interactive group discussion covers some of the key developments in Generative AI technology and how it is being used in educational settings.

Supporting Self-Directed Learning with ChatGPT (1 hours) - Friday, May 31, 2024 - This one-hour interactive group discussion will explore ways to use ChatGPT to support student study skills.

Supporting Project-Based Learning with ChatGPT (1 hours) - Monday, June 3, 2024 - This one-hour interactive workshop will demonstrate how to support students in using ChatGPT to brainstorm ideas and revise and edit writing.

Ethical Implications of Generative AI (1 hour) - Tuesday, June 4, 2024 - This one-hour interactive group discussion covers the potential ethical implications of Generative AI and how to think critically about its potential risks in education.

Week 2

Capstone Project - A Five-Hour Self-Paced Online Module (5 hours) - June 5 -11, 2024 - In this asynchronous portion of the course, participants will develop a project pitch on communicating and implementing generative AI tools in your practice. You will be required to give a video presentation on your project.
