Before You Register

Participants must have successfully completed a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification before registering for Black Belt.

Earned your Green Belt from another provider? UNC Charlotte will need to review information about the structure of your Green Belt program and proof of completion to determine whether it meets the prerequisite requirement.

Please confirm that your Green Belt prerequisite has been satisfied before registering.

Certification Requirements

To earn the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification, participants must successfully complete the online coursework, assessment and required project and coaching components.

• Complete all required online coursework.
• Pass a 100-question assessment with a minimum score of 70%.
• Complete a real-world Lean Six Sigma project using an approved methodology.
• Complete the required project coaching process.
• Work with an appropriate Project Champion throughout the project.
• Complete and present required project documentation for review and approval.

Successful completion of all coursework, assessment, project and coaching requirements is required to earn the Black Belt Certification.

Project Coaching

After successfully completing the online coursework and assessment, participants complete a real-world Lean Six Sigma project that demonstrates their ability to apply Black Belt concepts and tools.

The project may focus on improving an existing workplace process, designing a new process or addressing another approved organizational improvement opportunity.

Registration includes up to 13 weeks of project coaching with a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt. Participants will work independently on their projects while receiving guidance throughout the coaching process.

Instructions for completing the required coaching portion will be provided after the online coursework and assessment are successfully completed.
